ROLE: Conceptual Development, Animation, Rigging, Editing, and Producing

This is my senior capstone project! The process behind this piece was split up into two separate quarters: Fall and Winter. During the first quarter, I focused on the conceptualization of this project, while I created the assets and animated the actual piece during the second quarter.

Process

Concept

When thinking about what I wanted to do for my senior project, I was quite conflicted. In the past year, a lot happened to both me and those around me. However, I did know that I wanted to do something that would have a significant meaning to me. Before coming back for the Fall quarter, I was fairly certain I wanted to do some sort of infographic for diabetes. But, life has its way of changing things, especially when you least expect it.

Maggie, my lovely old English shepherd, had finally reached a point in her life where her body could no longer keep up with her. About two weeks before classes would’ve begun, she was refusing to eat, couldn’t get upstairs safely, couldn’t get up from laying down without help, and was covered in lesions. To cut the story short, she didn’t look like she had much, if any, time left on earth.

It was then that I decided that I wanted my senior project to be a tribute to Maggie. No matter what she was feeling or how she was treated, she would always greet me with a wonderful smile while wiggling her butt. She was always there for me when I needed her most, but I couldn’t be there for her when she needed me the most. I wanted to create a version/story of her that would last forever.

Character Design

Honestly, I struggled for quite some time on how to design the characters. As this is a very meaningful piece for me, I wanted everything to be perfect. But in reality, neither of us are perfect. Ultimately, I decided to focus on a limited color palette with clean and crisp lines.
